Project Progress
The Ontario Active Transportation Plan and East Idaho Avenue Refinement Plans are nearing completion. The community has contributed throughout the entire plan development process and the result includes two exciting plans that will improve transportation for the City of Ontario into the future.
Since the last project update in December, the project team has a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting and presented to a joint City Council and Planning and Zoning work session. These two efforts have helped refine the plans, develop proposed City code modifications, and ensure they are accomplishing the goals established at the beginning of the project.
Below is a link to the TAC meeting summary, the joint City Council and Planning and Zoning work session, and Technical Memorandum #11: Revised Policy Framework an Code Amendments.

What's Next?
The Active Transportation Plan and the East Idaho Avenue Refinement Plan are both entering into the final 35 day review period required by the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development. Once final review is completed, they will be up for adoption by the Ontario City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission. Please take a look at the Active Transportation Plan Update and East Idaho Avenue Refinement Area Plan below. We hope you are as excited about them as we are.

About the Project
The City of Ontario is preparing an active transportation plan to improve walking, biking, and riding transit. This plan will update the City’s 2006 Transportation System Plan (TSP), which no longer captures current conditions or community values for these modes of transportation. The City is also preparing a plan for improving the streetscape and travel by all modes on East Idaho Avenue between I-84 and the Snake River. Both plans will be based on community input and current data. We hope you will join us in improving our City!
- Active Transportation Plan Vision:
- Develop a comprehensive active transportation network providing safe and comfortable mobility options for all of Ontario's residents, employees, and visitors, thereby enhancing the City's economic vibrancy and promoting a healthy lifestyle for the Ontario community.
- East Idaho Avenue Refinement area Vision:
- Create multimodal connections between downtown and the East Idaho Avenue commercial area and enhance the streetscape of the East Idaho Avenue corridor, thereby better connecting Ontario residents and visitors to employment opportunities and enhancing the economic vibrancy of the East Idaho Avenue corridor.
