The Ontario Public Works Department is located at 1551 NW 9th Street in Ontario, Oregon. All necessary services are provided thru a Public Private Partnership with the Jacobs Engineering Company www.jacobs.com. The citizens of Ontario enjoy 24 hours a day, seven days a week response to all Public Services that fall under Public Works functions. The Department consists of 30 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees. The Department also contract with numerous and various Private Contractors from both Oregon and Idaho that serve the community.
The Ontario Public Works Department have five divisions - Administration, Engineering, Maintenance Operations, Water and Wastewater.
The Administration Division consists of Public Works Director Casey Mordhorst, Assistant Project Director Al Haun, Office Manager Suzanne Mulvany and Office Specialist Alicia Cardozo.
The Engineering Division includes; Design, Technical Review, Construction Inspection, Permitting, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Capital Improvement Program (CIP Project planning and implementation. All coordination efforts with the State’s Department of Transportation (ODOT) are initiated thru this Division via the City Engineer.
The Maintenance Operations Division includes; Streets (Lighting, Signals and Sweeping), Stormwater (Drainage, Channels and Retention areas) and Facilities (Parks, Cemeteries and Buildings).
The Water Operations Division includes; Distribution System (Water mains, Hydrants, Meters, Valves, Pumps and Booster Stations), Production Facilities (Treatment Plant for Surface and Groundwater sources) and Water Quality Compliance with Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
The Wastewater Operations Division includes; Collection System (Sewer Mains, Manholes and Lift Stations) and Wastewater Quality Compliance thru National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Program in compliance with Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
Four Public Works Sites; Public Works Maintenance Facility, Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Evergreen Cemetery Maintenance Facility are utilized to operate and maintain round the clock service to the community. The Department (Management and Crewmembers) are highly skilled and trained to provide best practices in Public Works. Every department staff member hold specialized certifications and licenses in Public Works Operations to technically, legally and efficiently manage all of the community’s public infrastructure.
