Fire prevention is one of our top priorities here at
Ontario Fire & Rescue.
Fire Prevention School Talks
Each year, Ontario Fire & Rescue has the pleasure of speaking to students in first and second grade about the importance of fire prevention. Students learn about why they need to have smoke detectors in the home, how to call 9-1-1 in an emergency and many other important things. The hope is that the students retain this information, encourage their families to prepare for an emergency and if an emergency occurs they are prepared.
Station Tours
Ontario Fire & Rescue offers station tours to school groups and other clubs throughout the year.

Home Fire Prevention
We are all responsible for playing our part in keeping our families safe. There are many things that we can do at home to encourage good fire prevention habits such as:
- Install smoke detectors inside each bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement.
- Create a home fire escape plan and practice it with the entire family.
- Create a meeting spot.
- Never leave the stove unattended whilst cooking.
- Keep lit candles, lighters, matches and other ignition devices out of the reach of children.
- If your child starts to show signs of being overly interested in fire please reach out to a member of Ontario Fire & Rescue. We have resources to help you!
