About the Project
Over that last decade the United States has seen roadway fatalities increase after a 30-year downward trend. In response, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) adopted the Safe Systems Approach that uses design, managing systems, vehicles, and related policies to alleviate mistakes that lead to severe impact. You can learn more about the Safe Streets System here.
Alongside adopting the Safe Systems approach, the USDOT established the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program for communities to address areas with high crash rates. In order to apply communities are required to have an existing and active Road Safety Action Plan.
The plan will analyze serious-injury and fatality data, community input through an advisory taskforce and public outreach opportunities and industry best practices to identify needed improvements to the City of Ontario.
