Members of the Chamber of Commerce had the opportunity to hear messages from Chief Leighton and Chief Romero on Monday, June 24. Chief Leighton addressed the upcoming Independence Day holiday and the importance of firework safety. Chief Leighton discussed the State Fire Marshal's "Keep it legal. Keep it safe" program and cited statistics regarding the harm and damage that illegal fireworks cause.
Chief Romero opened the session up to the audience to ask questions. He answered questions regarding his background, why Ontario, and strategies he is implementing at Ontario Police Department. Members of Ontario Police Department and Oregon State Police joined hospital staff at St. Alphonsus Medical Staff to dedicate a newly created space for law enforcement personnel. The office will give members from OPD, OSP, and the Sheriff's Office a private area to write reports, speak with family members, and conduct business.

Over 800 people attended the grand opening of the Ontario Splash Park on May 30. City staff served hot dogs and homemade root beer to guests as they enjoyed the new park. The splash park will be open every day from 9 AM to 9 PM. Reservations for the pergola, shade structures, and adjoining party room through the City in June and through the Recreation District any time after June.
After Budget Committee Meetings held in April, City Council approved the 2019-2020 Budget during their Council Meeting on May 21, 2019. The budget is available to view on the Financial Reports page.
