- City Council positions are elected at large, meaning candidates may reside anywhere within the Ontario city limits and are elected by all registered voters in the city.
- Candidates for City Council do not run against a specific Councilor or for a particular seat.
- The Mayor position is elected separately and is the only office for which candidates run for a specific position.
