Ontario City Council

The City Council is composed of a Mayor and six Councilors, elected from the city at large. Elections are conducted on a non-partisan basis, and each member is elected to serve a 4-year term.  Following an election, the Council will elect a President to conduct the meeting in the absence of the Mayor.

Each member of the Council acts as a liaison to an internal department, and is also appointed as a liaison to an external committee, commission, or board, such as the Planning Commission or Recreation Board. These appointments are reviewed each January following an election.

The City Council meets on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, excepting holidays when they will meet on the Tuesday immediately following the holiday.  Meetings begin at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers of Ontario City Hall. Public hearings during a Council meeting begin at 7:30 pm. Further, the Council conducts study sessions on the Thursday prior to a Council meeting, to discuss items on the agenda. These sessions begin at 12:00, and are also held in the Council Chamber of City Hall.
