Welcome to Ontario... 'Where Oregon Begins'-
Ontario is both the principal city and largest city in Malheur County, located halfway between Portland and Salt Lake City. Often referred to as "Far Eastern Oregon", Ontario is also known as the Western Treasure Valley, with lands dotted with prime agricultural farms, ranches, and spacious rugged scenic vistas.
Ontario is an energetic community that provides the best of Oregon in one compact package. Ontario offers annual events such as the Japanese Obon Festival, Mexican Cinco De Mayo, America's Global Village Festival, the Buck-a-Roo Supper, and the Great Owyhee Ride Against Hunger to name just a few! Ontario is also involved in the Sister City Program, happily "sistered" with Osakasayama, Japan.
Revitalize Ontario! is an Oregon Main Street Project, taking on legs of its own in creating a destination point for Ontario by creating a vibrant downtown, attracting shoppers from all over the world. Also, the "Friends of the Aquatic Center" is actively engaged in bringing new life to the city's Aquatic Center.
The City of Ontario is actively engaged in economic development by creating a partnership with the Snake River Economic Development Alliance, Malheur County Economic Development, and the Governors Eastern Region Coordinator Solutions Team. This brings all of the economic development players to the same table, resulting in quick and qualified answers to the many questions received. Depending on the nature of a particular business, we ensure ALL necessary folks are involved, such as Idaho Power, Cascade Gas, city officials, Treasure Valley Community College, or any other player with an interest in the project. It could be considered a painless "One Stop Shop", which brings forward a wealth of information.
Ontario is forward thinking, and always keeping its citizens in mind, giving great consideration as to what would be best for the City. To that end, the City has developed public/private partnerships with CH2M Hill for our Public Works Department, and most recently welcomed Oster Professional Group to run the Finance Department.
Ontario is a great City to retire in, raise a family, or grow a business. Citizens can feel confident in new City Manager Adam Brown, and feel safe with new Police Chief Cal Kunz. Ontario continues to think outside the box, creating the best environment for businesses and citizens alike. We pride ourselves on being the best of the best, and no other community can offer all of what we have, but minus the traffic jams!
Yours in Service,
