Ontario Police Chief

The City of Ontario is pleased to announce the hiring of Steven Romero as Ontario's next police chief. Mr. Romero has a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from California State University Fullerton. He has nearly 30 years of experience between the Los Angeles Police Department (May 1989-1993) and the Hawthorne Police Department (1993-current).

Upon acceptance, Chief Romero said, "It is a privilege and honor to accept your formal offer to serve the City of Ontario as the next chief of police. I look forward to joining such a great group of people and leading the Ontario Police Department in the near future."

Chief Romero is an advocate for and has a significant amount of experience working with community groups and citizens to broaden the reach and impact of local law enforcement. He will be leaving his most recent responsibilities as the watch commander for over 90 officers and 40 civilian personnel. He also has significant experience partnering with other law enforcement agencies in joint task forces within the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
