Ontario City Council
The City Council is composed of a Mayor and six Councilors, elected from the city at large. Elections are conducted on a non-partisan basis, and each member is elected to serve a 4-year term. Following an election, the Council will elect a President to conduct the meeting in the absence of the Mayor.
Each member of the Council is also appointed as a liaison to an external committee, commission, or board, such as the Planning Commission or Parks and Recreation Board. These appointments are reviewed each January following an election.

If a second Council meeting is needed, it will be held on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Further, the Council conducts study sessions on the Thursday prior to a Council meeting, to discuss items on the agenda. These sessions begin at 12:00, and are also held in the Council Chamber of City Hall.
